LIFE STORY WORK WITH TRAUMATISED CHILDREN
A one day seminar

This course provides an introduction to the Life Story process, based on the book by Richard Rose and Terry Philpot ‘The Child's Own Story: Life Story Work with Traumatised Children' (part of the SACCS Delivering Recovery series, published by Jessica Kingsley).
Delegates learn how this work helps children make sense of the past, so that what has happened to them does not dominate, control or inhibit the present. The course covers:
- Listening and interpretive skills
- The importance of identity and meaning
- The significance of ‘magical thinking'
- The Life Story process: gathering and collating information
- Techniques for producing the Life Story book
This course is suitable for Foster Carers and Adoptive Parents. It will complement the professional development of the children's workforce, including Social Workers, Social Care and Education Professionals, Voluntary and Charitable Organisations, Independent Providers, Community Services, Fostering and Adoption Practitioners, Family and Child Therapists, CAFCASS and CAMHS.

| THERAPEUTIC PARENTING (FORMERLY PARENTING STRATEGIES) |
A six day course spread over six months, this course recognises how children with disturbed attachment patterns can be, and aims to offer adoptive parents an opportunity to:
Meet other adoptive parents experiencing similar difficulties.
Consider some of the underlying reasons for their child's challenging behaviour.
Explore new approaches to managing disturbed behaviour.
Look at ways in which parents can encourage their children to develop healthier attachments.
Look at anger management and self care for adopters.
